Back in June 2005, the author Rick Riordan introduced us to an exciting new fantasy adventure book series inspired by Greek mythology, and it’s called Percy Jackson & the Olympians. The series revolves around Percy Jackson, a twelve-year-old boy who discovers that he is secretly a demigod, the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. Becoming an instant hit, Riordan followed up the incredibly popular first series with four more, taking readers on an incredibly epic journey where we saw Percy grow and embrace his identity to help the world. In 2010, after the conclusion of the book series, the film adaptation of the first novel, Lightning thief, brought to the big screen. sequel, Sea of Monsters, followed in 2013, however both films received mixed responses from audiences and critics alike, as well as fans of the material. Riordan did not seem to be a big fan of the film, both during the production and years from their release. Fortunately, this epic book saga has been given a second chance to return to our screens, this time as a TV series!
In December 2019, Riordan pitched his idea for a Percy Jackson TV series to Disney, and in May 2020, it was officially announced in development. This news was enthusiastically received by fans of the original book, especially with the author himself who played a larger role in its production. The series has become a highly anticipated project, so before it hits our screens, here is everything we know so far. Percy Jackson and the Olympians!

So what is Percy Jackson and the Olympians about?
If you’ve read the book series or seen the two movie adaptations, you probably know what the first season of the series will cover. The official summary of the story is short and sweet and reads as follows:
Demigod Percy Jackson leads a quest across America to prevent a war between the Olympian tribes.
For those who are not familiar with the source, allow me to explain a little! The first season will mostly be based on the first novel in the series, Lightning thief. In it, Percy is accused by the Greek god Zeus of stealing his thunderbolt. This eventually begins a chaotic chain of events that may forever change both the mortal and divine worlds, leaving Percy in a race against time to find the missing thunderbolt.
The book is full of action, heart and lots of humor, as Percy learns more about the great world of angels and monsters and makes new friends along the way. So, in other words, it looks like the series is going to be a blast to watch too!
Who is in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series?
Over the course of the book series, many characters are introduced throughout Percy’s world-saving adventures, with some as trusted allies and others as treacherous threats. With this first season covering the story of the first novel in its entirety, there will be heavy lifting in establishing many of the main and secondary characters that will become central to the next series. Whether they’re playing heroes or villains, the series has attracted an impressive cast so far, led by the trio of Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries is the daughter of Athena Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri A satyr Grover Underwood.
Following the announcement of the pageant, Jeffries Cast was met with a racist backlash, with Riordan quickly coming to her defense. Riordan redoubled his defense in a later interview. Hollywood Reporter said:
“For Leah, she shouldn’t have to deal with that. She should be allowed to practice her craft and her art, and be recognized as a talented actress who got the part because she got the part, without having to deal with speculation that it’s just this or that — ‘It’s. Quota, it’s awareness,’ whatever, blah, blah, blah. That doesn’t sit well with me.
“I’ve always been a teacher first and foremost, and that’s a teachable moment. That’s when I had to say, ‘Okay, wait. Let’s consider this and consider what you said and why you said it.’

Will Percy Jackson and the Olympians Get a Season 2?
Quite possible! While we have not yet received an official announcement about Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, Riordan confirmed that the writers’ room is hard at work on the script for the next season. Again, the show hasn’t improved yet, but it seems almost exactly like a prophecy from the Fates themselves.
