Nick Fury is behind the scenes. He’s spent decades gathering intel about potential threats and the people who help him protect the planet. It has recently been revealed that most of Fury’s achievements were only possible with the help of Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and the Skrulls who secretly work for him. Still, he’s been trusted to lead some of the biggest covert missions in Marvel history.

During his early days with S.H.I.E.L.D., in captain marvel, Fury proved that he is skeptical, not easy to believe, but he will accept the reality of any evidence he sees with his own eyes. He smiles like Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) hints that she is part of the alien Kree starforce, fighting shape-shifting Skrulls, until a few minutes later, one of the Skrulls tries to bombard her with a laser. From that moment on, he set out to do everything in his power to help Carol and protect the planet, no matter what he believed in before meeting her. His objective open mind was a virtue that helped him stay one step ahead of everyone else and kept him at the top of the espionage game for decades.

When Captain America (chris evans) discovers that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been infiltrated by Hydra Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Hydra’s first move was to attempt to assassinate Fury. He’s the biggest threat to their takeover because he has the resources and knowledge to thwart their plans. He was put in charge of Project Insight and the construction of the Air Combat Station because of his firm belief that threats to humanity could be prevented by planning ahead. Sending the Black Widow was his instruction (Scarlett Johansson) with Captain America to back up S.H.I.E.L.D. intelligence and help him uncover the corruption behind Project Insight. Hydra wanted so badly to kill Fury that they sent the Winter Soldier (sebastian stan) tried to take him out, but he managed to escape anyway. Even without S.H.I.E.L.D.’s resources, Fury was able to fake his death and help Cap and Black Widow defeat Hydra from the shadows.

Is Nick Fury still capable?

Fury hasn’t really had a vacation since he was brought back to the Blip. As the commander of SABER, the world’s first weaponized space station, Fury has worked to develop defensive strategies to protect the world from galactic threats. Hundreds of military personnel are stationed on the satellite and working with him. For Fury, though, throwing himself into the development of SABER was an easy choice, as he actively avoided facing the guilt of failing to stop Thanos (josh brolin). Since returning to Earth, Fury has seen the consequences of his avoidance many times, and is learning how ignoring a problem will only make it harder to fix later.

Fury knows better than most what others will think of his return to Earth so long after he’s been away. According to his plan, he will imagine all the scenes of many people he will meet when he comes back. Despite the lack of connection, Fury still has the means to keep tabs on what’s going on on Earth. He knows that everyone thinks he’s out of touch and more humble than he was before, so he uses that perception against anyone who gets in his way. Even after acknowledging Sonia Farsworth (Olivia Colman) Even though he used her goons to get close to her, she still believed him to be slow and weak. Fury had the foresight to bug the owl clock, proving he already knew she wouldn’t give him the information he was asking for. He also knows to suspect his wife Priscilla (Charlene Woodard) is related to Gravik (Kingsley Ben Adil) when he saw her reaction to his return and how she behaved after receiving suspicious calls. He’s always been good at reading people and knowing what they’re thinking, but he’s even better at using their perception of him to manipulate them into doing exactly what he has planned.

Nick Fury has never been so vulnerable

The battle for human survival has never been so bleak. The Skrulls have always sided with Fury, and now a million Skrulls are split into two factions. It is not known which illustrious humans the violent faction of the Skrulls have taken over. Already stripped of his talent and backdoor connections, Fury has no other resources to help him stop the final stages of the invasion. His only connection is Talos, and he is able to mend that relationship by finally admitting that without Talos, he is nothing.

Nick Fury is a cornered deadly predator, and such people are at their most dangerous when they think they have nothing left to lose. He has not been held accountable to any government agency since government authorities fired him. He wasn’t sure he could trust his wife, so no family ties weighed on him. He couldn’t call the Avengers because the risk of the Skrulls duplicating them was too great. After losing Maria Hill, Talos was the only person he could trust. Still, if there’s one thing that’s true about Fury, it’s that he’s spent his life preparing for every possible scenario he can think of. It would be a mistake to think that he was not prepared for something as serious as a secret invasion.
