Although life is malleable and wondrous Barbie World, you still have to do some work to make it look that way.director of the blockbuster Greta Gerwig (lady bird) recently talked about how she envisions the world of Barbie dolls (Margot Robbie) and Ken (ryan gosling) and the decisions she had to make in order to look as rosy as possible during her roundtable interview with Entertainment Weekly.
In interviews, Gerwig talks about making every inch of Barbieland come alive, and one way to make a world full of live-action dolls feel different is to only hire background actors who are also dancers. The director explained that the decision is easy to understand just by looking at how the background dancers behave in the musical, even when they’re standing still:
“In terms of how they move and behave, I want it to feel more intense, but I don’t want it to feel like a sketch. In a studio musical like ‘Oklahoma!’ or ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ ’, there’s a quality to people’s movements. So all the Barbies and Kens you see on the beach (and other dance sequence setups) hold themselves in different ways. Our choreography says dancers, their bodies There is always a “direction different from ordinary people. So it’s kind of like the Barbieland concept where it’s like a studio musical. “
